Grand Canyon touring company files for Chapter 7 bankruptcy

by Administrator 20. October 2011 04:09

Avatar Tours, a company that took visitors on tour of the Grand Canyon, have filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, according to court documents.

Court papers show that two people formed the company last year and toured visitors in a pair of 15-seat passenger vans. The company nearly doubled their sales in the year. The company then failed an inspection by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and this restricted the company to only drive in Nevada.

The vans were then seen traveling through Arizona toward the Grand Canyon anyway. After another violation, the company was told to stop its services. The company had already booked tours and now have filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in order to liquidate its assets.

by Administrator 11. July 2011 02:12

Over recent years, bankruptcy filings have spiked because of tight credit may be begginning to drop.

There have been 3,808 filings in the first half of 2011, which is nearly 7.5 percent lower than what it was at this time last year. This trend has also been seen in statewide filings. These decreases are the first after four years of increased filings.

The most common type of bankruptcy filings are Chapter 7 filings that occur when people sell their remaining assets in order to pay creditors that they owe. Chapter 7 filings are down 8.5 percent from this time in 2010, but Chapter 11 filings have not seen such a dramatic increase.
