Personal bankruptcy filings rise in 2009

by Administrator 6. January 2010 03:35

Personal bankruptcy filings increased 32 perecent in 2009 compared to 2008. According to the National Bankruptcy Research Center, Chapter 7 filings increased 42% while Chapter 13 filings increased 12%.

The increases in bankruptcy filings were largely a result of the economic recession. As the recession caused many people to lose their jobs or other sources of income, many individuals and families were forced to file for bankruptcy.
